Fall Maternity Fashion: 24 weeks

Thursday, November 17, 2016

We are in the middle of Fall and I must say that I am enjoying being pregnant in a season where oversized sweaters and leggings are acceptable. Here's my weekly update for those who have been following my pregnancy journey.

How far along: 24 weeks
Size of baby: Eggplant

What am I wearing: Maternity clothes?
I've officially dug out all of my winter clothes to see what I can fit into before I make the move to buy any more maternity clothes. Things are getting tight, so I stick with maternity bottoms but have been trying to get away with non-maternity tops as long as possible. I've just been layering long tank tops under shorter shirts like this one to try and squeeze out a few more wears.

How do I feel: Symptoms?
Every day has been different depending on how much I try to do in a day. When I feel like I have the energy to get stuff done, I usually end up over doing it and just crash by 9pm.
I experienced my first debilitating muscle cramp this week, which was so painful. I woke up suddenly one morning when I felt my calf lock up and I had to force myself to stretch it out despite the pain. I've read that it's common but I have been trying to stay hydrated and rest to prevent it from happening again.

Cravings: I had my first strong craving this weekend for something sweet, and since I have been trying to keep healthy food at home, we didn't have anything. So my wonderful husband made a trip to the grocery store at 8pm and brought home a cupcake and ice cream (for him). Apparently the cashier made a comment about his choices and he said it was for his pregnant wife! lol We're both taking advantage of this "free pass" while we can.

Movement: Baby's kicks are getting stronger and it's been crazy to see my stomach moving when she gets going.

Sleep: I have had a few restless nights over the past week which hasn't been fun, but I know it's only going to get worse the bigger my belly gets. *Sigh

Best moment of the week: Getting some of our nursery furniture delivered! Now to put it all together.

Fall maternity fashion: 20 weeks

Wednesday, October 19, 2016

I can't believe we are halfway to meeting our little babe! I have a timeline where I mark off each week, and I remember looking at the 20 week mark when I first got pregnant, thinking it was so far away. It has been somewhat of an emotional few days thinking about how far we've come and what we have to look forward to. I will be writing more about our story and the journey to getting pregnant soon.

How far along: 20 weeks
Size of baby: Length of a banana

What am I wearing: Maternity clothes?
Usually when I woke up in the morning, my belly was fairly small and wasn't very round. Then, I woke up one morning last week, and my belly had just popped! So, needless to say, my regular pants have gotten a little snug. I bought another pair of maternity pants and leggings, and have been wearing them for the most part lately, but I can still wear all of my regular shirts since I usually wear them a little bigger anyway.

How do I feel: Symptoms? If you ask my husband, he will say I'm moody (sorry babe). I guess I just have to get used to slowing down, because I feel like I have the energy and drive to do so much, but I get tired more easily and in turn, grumpy.

Cravings: No cravings, but man do I enjoy eating these days! Which may be funny to hear for those who know me well, because eating has always been more about feeding my body than really enjoying food.

Movement: I had been noticing more and more quick movements but they were far and few between. This week I had an early morning meeting at work, and I guess the baby wasn't ready to be up quite so early. I was sitting in the boardroom quietly and for about 30 minutes could feel baby moving around so much!

Sleep: Lately I have been waking up at 4:30am, I'll go to bathroom, and then can't get back to sleep. I usually just lay in bed rubbing my belly and thinking about what it will be like to have a baby to wake up to. I'm sure I'll regret saying this, but I'm actually looking forward to early morning feedings/ cuddles in bed while my husband sleeps beside me and probably the cat on the end of the bed.

Best moment of the week: Feeling the baby move!

What I'm most looking forward to: Taking some maternity pictures this weekend that we will use for our gender reveal!

Top: Old Navy (non-maternity) | Vest: New Balance | Jeans: Old Navy (maternity) | Sneakers: Converse

MFW: Streetstyle trends

Tuesday, October 18, 2016

Some major trends for Fall that I noticed looking through these streetstyle snaps are; monochromatic outfits, booties in an assortment of colours and textures ie. metallic & velvet, and the colour red seems to the hottest colour on the streets this Fall.

Fall Maternity Fashion: 19 weeks

Thursday, October 13, 2016

It's been an exciting week! We had our mid-pregnancy ultrasound and got to see our growing baby together for the first time, since my husband couldn't be there the first 2 times I had one done. I keep looking at the photos we got back and I don't think it still has really set in that I am having a baby! It all seems so surreal.

How far along: 19 weeks
Size of baby: Mango, length of a zucchini (about 6"). Baby weighed in at 10 ounces at the 19 week ultrasound, and in the 56th percentile overall.
Weight gain: 9.2 lbs

What am I wearing: Maternity clothes? Still wearing my regular clothes, but am hoping to get at least another pair of maternity pants and leggings soon to up the comfort level. Things are starting to get tight! (I never thought I'd be excited about that.)

How do I feel: Symptoms? Feeling like myself again with very little symptoms these days. This second trimester has me in super-mom mode and wanting to cleaning every inch of my house before I get too tired again.

Cravings: No cravings, but I have really been enjoying Sprite lately. I had cut out all caffeine over the past 4-5 months, so it's been one of my small indulgances over the past couple of weeks.

Movement: Still unsure if it's for sure the baby that I have felt since it's such quick little reflexes. Should be more recognizable in the next couple of weeks.

Sleep: Still sleeping really well! Enjoying it while I can.

Best moment of the week: Getting to see our little nugget again at our 19 week ultrasound. And, most exciting of all, we found out the gender! We are going to do a little "reveal" so stay tuned for that. I'd love to hear your guesses!

Fall Maternity Fashion: 18 weeks

Thursday, October 6, 2016

I started doing some Pre-natal yoga/ stretches this week to keep my muscles loose and hopefully prevent back pain. It's also really helpful to practice calming breathing techniques for labour. As you probably know, YouTube is filled with every kind of video you could imagine, so after the yoga video, the suggested videos that came up were live birth videos! I followed my curiousity and watched two mid-wife assisted water births. Let me tell you, if you have never seen a birth, it brings out all kinds of emotions (especially if you're pregnant)! I was crying the whole time, not out of fear, but more just emotions about this baby growing inside of me, and how amazing our bodies are that we can create and give birth to another human being.

How far along: 18 weeks - I am officially 4 months today!
Size of baby: Baby is the size of a sweet potato

What am I wearing: Maternity clothes? Still wearing my regular clothes, but am slowly packing away clothes that I can no longer fit into anymore. I have only bought a couple of maternity pieces since I got pregnant, but have purchased a couple of long (non-maternity) knit shirts like this one that I can hopefully wear for a while.
Tip: When buying basics like a white tee, look for non-maternity options that you can where throughout your whole pregnancy.

How do I feel: Symptoms? I have been feeling really good the past week and thankful to have more energy to get things done, but I do notice that I get tired more easily. I had a busy day at work last Friday, and was on my feet most of the day. Our day wrapped up early, so when I got home I thought I'd just lay on my bed and unwind a bit, but ended up falling asleep. When I woke up and looked at the clock I realized I had slept for 2 hours! (and I was still able to go to bed at my usual 9:30pm)
Other symptoms: Itchy skin (belly and breasts), so I have started to use a coconut /shea butter to hopefully prevent stretch marks! Round ligament pain in my lower abdomen due to stretching muscles.

Cravings: No cravings really, but definitely am totally turned off from hamburgers since I got pregnant.
Movement: My mom always says it feels like little flutters or butterflies in your stomach, and last night I fell asleep to the ever so slight butterflies moving around in my belly.
Sleep: Still getting lots of sleep but have noticed myself moving around a lot more to make sure I am not sleeping on my stomach. "They" say the best position after 4 months is on your left side to help with bloodflow, so I have subconsciously been trying to stay on my left side.
