Featured: Interview with Sophisticated in Style

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

I have had the pleasure to get to know Lauren a little bit through blogging, and she has been a great support for my blog and budding business. You can check out the interview she did with me here.

Here's just a few snippets for you to read if you don't have time to read the whole article.

How did you come up with the name ‘Vantage Events?’

It took me a long time! I wanted something that wasn’t wedding specific, and something that would make people think, “What does that stand for?”. I started looking up words that described the type of business I wanted to create, and came up with Vantage. Def: a position giving a strategic advantage, commanding perspective, or comprehensive view (source).

What would you say is the most important thing about your business that brings it success?

Dedication and passion. You cannot have a successful business without either of these things. Dedication is what gets the boring, finite details done, but passion is what keeps me going. You can’t fake passion, and clients can see that.

Can you please provide any advice for young professionals wanting to become an entrepreneur and/or get into the event planning business?

I am new at this so I don’t know how much advice I can give, but I would tell any young professional to do what they love. Show a positive work ethic, be reliable, and always strive to reach your full potential. Entrepreneurs have to take risks, but try to be as knowledgeable and prepared for the industry you are entering before you start, so that you don’t get scared off. Going through disappointment or failure is inevitable, but it’s all in how you handle it. Use these experiences as a stepping stone to something greater, and assess how you can improve for the next opportunity. Lastly, the biggest thing I have learned is to create your own opportunities. Don’t waste your time waiting for someone to come to you and offer you your “big break”. It’s all about hard work and proving that you deserve to be part of that industry. Best of luck to all you budding entrepreneurs out there!
