Travel: [What to wear] England in the Winter

Tuesday, November 22, 2016

A visit to England during the winter may get you away from the snow, but that doesn't mean you won't need to keep warm. The weather can be tricky, so I wanted to share some tips to help you pack for a visit to England.

[What to Wear] England

What to pack for 1 week in England

  • You'll want a light jacket, and a heavier one for those colder days.
  •  Sweaters are the key to keeping warm on those cold damp days that you are walking around visiting the sights. I would suggest to bring sweaters that you can layer so that you get the most use out of them.
  • Depending on your itinerary, you'll want at least one nice blouse that you can wear out, and some more casual tees for daytime.
  • Cardigans are great for layering and if you get a day without rain you can venture out without a coat!
  • Footwear can be tricky because you don't want to bring anything too bulky, but keep in mind you will need something comfortable, warm, and practical for the weather.
  • Pack neutral bottoms such as leggings and jeans to be able to work with any outfit. And throw in something different like a dress or skirt if you want to dress things up a little.
Other:
Tights, Mittens (hat optional), and Umbrella.
A couple of scarves to keep warm and change up your look.

[What to wear] India

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

I have been dreaming about visiting India again. It's such an amazing place with so much to discover! When we traveled there in October, I put a lot of thought into my wardrobe because there are so many factors to consider. Even though it was only 3 days, I wanted to be prepared for any kind of weather or occasion.

Tips for packing for a 3 day trip to India

1. Check the seasonal temperatures of the region you will be visiting. The Northern Mountains vs. Mumbai will make a huge difference in what you will need to pack.

2. Wear things that are light and comfortable.
Pack items that are easy to throw in a suitcase and you don't have to worry about it getting wrinkled.

3. I've heard different people's opinion on wearing sandals vs. closed toe shoes, but unless you are going through the slums where there could be hazardous waste on the streets, sandals are fine. Pick a versatile (and comfortable) sandal that you can wear day to night.

4. Be considerate of the culture and keep your shoulders and knees covered. Shorts are fine but wear them at a decent length.

5. Bring a small cross body bag for day trips to prevent theft, so you aren't carrying around all of your valuables with you. Backpacks are not recommended unless worn at the front.

6. It's hot, and dusty, and smoggy, and you will want to shower multiple times a day if possible, so bring lots of toiletries. (sidenote: Bring toilet paper that you can carry with you at all times. Public restrooms do not supply toilet paper, or you will have to pay one of the bathroom attendants for it.)

5 Tips for Packing your Wardrobe

Monday, June 23, 2014

We are packing up to move to our new place this weekend, so I thought I'd give you some tips on how to pack up your wardrobe efficiently.

1. Make sure you label every box!
     - Number each box and have a corresponding list for what is in every box

2. Pack your shoes in a rolling suitcase
    - pack all boots at the bottom

3. Keep your clothes on the hanger
    - Tie a rubber band around hangers and wrap in a sheet
    - Fold clothes into a large plastic tote

4. Packing jewelry
    - Keep your expensive pieces in a safe place. Make sure you know where it is at all times
    - Tightly wrap all jewelry boxes
    - Pack costume jewelry in small zipper pouches
    - Use a travel-friendly jewelry carrier with multiple compartments for dainty jewelry

5. Pack all denim together in a sturdy box
     - Denim is heavy, so keep it in a small(er) box, and make sure the bottom is taped up well!

Travel Bag {Packing}

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Our trip overseas is still 6 months away, but since the flights and some accommodations are starting to get booked, it got me excited to start planning what I can wear while travelling to some of the most beautiful places on earth.
Of course getting there is part of the trip, and it's all about comfort for me. The first leg of the trip will be Toronto, Canada - Abu Dhabi, Dubai - New Delhi, India. Some of my essentials are, a magazine, music and a comfy pair of shoes!

While we are in Australia, we are visiting several places and taking a few short flights between provinces. I want to be beach ready and also practical, so a denim jacket and jeans seem a perfect fit for an afternoon of flying.
Leave me some of your packing tips for a trip to India and/or Australia.

Travel Bag: Trip of a lifetime

Thursday, October 25, 2012

Lately I have been day dreaming about our plans to go to Australia next year. We are hoping to make the trip out there with my husband's family next November (2013), and plan on making it our 'last big trip before babies'. We have a few stops in mind on the way there and back, and I can't help but think about what I would wear while travelling to some of the most magnificent places in the world. (Sad but true)

So I've put a little packing list together of what I would bring on this trip of a lifetime.

First stop - New Delhi, India

One thing that is not lacking in India is colour! I plan on wearing colourful loose tunics, modest shorts, and long flowing skirts. I always want to be mindful of the culture that I am jumping into and would not want to wear something that may be offensive to their religion or cultural standards. One thing to bring or purchase would be a shawl to wear over your head if you plan on visiting religious sanctuaries. We will be doing lots of walking, so a good pair of shoes if also very important.

Main Stay - Victoria & Brisbane, Australia

When staying in Australia, our main focus is family time. We are attending a wedding for my husband's cousin and visiting with family from around the world. We'll be taking day trips, attending wedding functions, and spending a few nights on the town. I want to take versatile clothing that can bring be through from day - night and also lots of layers since it may be temperamental weather at that time of year.

Last Stop - (undecided) Italy

One of the places that is at the top of my list to see is Italy. We haven't quite decided if we will be able to make a stop on the way home yet, but I am really hoping we can make it to Italy. I mean wouldn't that just be the cherry on top of an already amazing trip?! I dream of walking the streets with fancy Italian women in black heels and the perfect trench coat. Sitting back and enjoying the scenery of Venice on a gondola with a singing man in a tophat! A girl can dream right?
