Wedding Wednesday: Bridesmaids Dresses

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

The times are changing, and as a modern bride, I feel that certain areas of planning are now left entirely up to the brides discretion. Today, I'm talking about the bridesmaids dresses. Out of most of the weddings that I have been a part of or attended, the bridesmaids were dressed the same. I am taking a different approach and allowing my lovely ladies to pick their own dress, given certain criteria. The age ranges from 30 - 21 years old and everyone has different body types, so why not allow them to look their best in what works for them individually? They have all been very receptive to the idea and I want them to look and feel their best.
What's your take on this new idea?

This is the exact look I am going for.
The flower shoulder is a fun touch. The purple dress is the exact colour I am after and the style is beautiful!
Both styles are from Allure Bridesmaids.

  3. I agree when I have my wedding I want my bridesmaid dresses to look different, as long as they're all the same color people can go nuts with their style!

  4. Best idea ever. As long as they are the same color and type of fabric, it will look amazing, because every lady will look and feel her best!

  5. I think it's such a fab idea! As long as it fits your criteria, it gives the bridesmaids the option to purchase something that is in there own price range. So great! xo

  6. I think it's great! I love mismatched, but cohesive at the same time, dresses. I recently debated whether or not I should do this myself.

  14. I like that idea, as long as you give them some criteria! I take it you're not a fan of making you're bride's maids look like shit so that by comparison you look even more stunning (someone once told me that was their strategy.. I was rather stunned, and thankful I was not a bride's maid)

  15. Very nice idea and definitely something you should go for! I would watch out for the same colors. The red ones in the first photo are a bit mismatched. Would be my only concern. Otherwise love the idea!!

  19. As you probably saw this is exactly what I did -- but probably even more casually than you're planning to. It kind of ended up being the only viable option with my uber pregnant sisters, but I'm really glad I went this way. I just told my girls to find a blue dress that was somewhere between navy and ocean blue -- we didn't end up seeing them all together until the day before the wedding, haha! But it worked out really well, and everyone looked and felt great the day of. Do it!!!

  20. Love this idea. I find at the weddings I've been to or part of where the bride gave options, it makes everyone feel really good in what they're wearing, and because of that, look better.
