On a cold winter's day

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

I had a mini photo session with my brother-in-law, Derek deBoer, a couple of weeks ago on a beautiful snowy day.
I made this jacket in school a couple years ago but have never really worn it. It's a high-collared, double breasted, 100% wool jacket, 100% handmade by ME. I wanted some new pictures to add to my portfolio so this is just a sneak peak.

Celebrity Crush: Miroslava Duma

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Miroslava Duma is well known in the fashion industry not only for her work as former editor for Harper's Bazaar (Russia), but for her amazing sense of style. She is now a freelance writer for numerous publications such as OK Magazine, Tatler, Glamour (Russian Magazines), and continues to be a huge influence on the fashion world. I always admire what people in the fashion industry wear, but never think I could pull it off. Somehow she makes it so effortlessly glamourous that I just might dare to try some of her looks out myself.
She pretty much started the socks and sandals trend.

I am in love with this flared denim dress! Shows you it's not just for summer.
Matching Missoni jacket and skirt? Can it get any better?
Love this purple scarf with the neutral outfit.
What can you say about a pink leopard print skirt?
Not many people could make it look this good.

Red, leather, high waisted, shorts! Enough said.
I saved the best for last. I absolutely love this outfit! She looks stunning!

Round scarf DIY

Thursday, December 9, 2010

A Little DIY

When I bought this scarf, I had in mind that I wanted to make it into a round scarf (infinity scarf, whatever you want to call them).
So this is just a little DIY I wanted to share with you on how to do it.

All I did was took the two ends (making sure it was not twisted) and sewed them together.
Simple as that!

On a side note: I learned how to knit on a machine in design school, but the knitting machine I have is very old and needs a little TLC before I can use it. So alternatively, I learned how to knit by hand the other day, so maybe I will be able to make my own scarf like this one day!

Stylish Blogger Award!

Monday, November 29, 2010

What? Wow! I am so excited.
A new blog friend of mine, Cee from Coco and Vera awarded me the Stylish Blogger Award! THANKS CEE!

The award comes with a few contingences...
1. Thank the person who gave you this award.
2. Share seven facts about yourself.
3. Pay it forward to seven bloggers you adore and contact them to let them know they've been chosen.

Seven Facts about Me:
1. I live on a farm. No we do not have animals, just vegetables. It is as boring as it sounds.
2. I come from a very large dutch family! We are loud, and we like olie bollen! (donuts dipped in icing sugar)
3. I have a tattoo on my left foot of a Dutch/Canadian flag that I got during my "rebellious" years at Fashion school.
4. I am a hopeless romantic. I have been dating my bf for 6 1/2 years and can't wait to marry him! It has been a long distance relationship for 5 of those years so it makes it that much more exciting.
5. My middle name is Danielle, after my dad Daniel, since I was born on his birthday.
6. I have a slight obsession with organizing things. Organizers and cute little boxes get me excited, how sad.
7. I had a cat named lucky... it got hit by a car and died. Oh the irony.

Seven Stylish Bloggers I adore:
1. Cats and Rocking Chairs
2. Hellodenj
3. Denise of Po & Thead
4. Qqueen of Hearts
5. Quality Rivets
6. the feli blog
7. Anna Saccone

Travel: {England, UK}

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Brighton & London, England

I traveled to England in February 2007 during my Spring break with my boyfriend to visit his sister while she was attending school there. I had her answer a few questions about dressing in England.

Q.What is a staple item for living in England?
A.Wellington boots (rain boots) and an umbrella.

Q. What is a popular trend you noticed while living there?
A. Girls loved the side messy ponytail and tights with the tunic top.

Q. How would you dress for a typical Spring day?
A. Spring is like any other day, rainy, so I always wore a light Spring jacket.

Q.What are some of your favourite places to shop?
A. Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Primark & River Island.

We went to London for the weekend where we visited Camden Market which was really cool, and also saw the other typical tourist spots such as Buckingham Palace & Big Ben. The weather was cool, but I was just happy there wasn't snow!

Style Crush: Shenae Grimes

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Actress: Shenae Grimes
Besides being a Canadian girl, Shenae Grimes is a beautiful, talented, actress. Her first major role was on Degrassi: The Next Generation, and she now stars in the hit series, 90210. She has a very casual sense of style which is why I love it, but she can also throw in a cool flare either with patterned tights or a hat.
