Meet our guest: A Heart and Soul Story

Friday, July 19, 2013

It's Friday! I am definitely looking forward to the weekend after a week of record high temperatures, and no air conditioning! Complaints aside, I want to introduce you to the lovely Anja. She has kindly offered to share her packing list for a wedding in Helsinki, Finland - a place I would absolutely love to visit some day.

Hello, Little Red Purse Readers!  My name is Anja and I am blogging over at A Heart and Soul Story. Leah has been so kind to do a little guest post on my blog while I am attending a wedding in beautiful Helsinki and I now wanted to return the favor. As Leah is in the wedding business, and with her lovely wedding from last year, she is a pro. Still, she asked me to share my packing list for my trip to the wedding in Finland.

As I am combining the wedding trip with a little vacation, I had to pack smart, which is not my favourite thing. I love all my clothes and it is hard for me to limit myself. I still tried.

My outfit had to be classy, but also comfortable as we would be moving around a lot during the day. I tried to find pieces that I could remix again during our trip. I picked a lovely mint/turquoise cocktail dress and added white, mint and silver accessories to the look.

Scandinavian Thursday: Bedroom

Thursday, July 18, 2013

There's something about a simple white bedroom that is so calming and peaceful. I love Scandinavian bedrooms, I just want to dive into these beds and take a nap. Hope you've been enjoying these interior inspirations.

For Sale

Monday, July 15, 2013

Over the past few months, my family has been preparing for a big move. It's not necessarily because of the distance, but because it's the home that I grew up in. My parents bought our farm 18 years ago, and have put so much work into making it a place you always look forward to coming home to. With the dynamics of our family changing so much, my parents and my sister and bro-in-law decided to buy a dual family farm house together with room still for everyone to visit, and my brothers to have an apartment to themselves. The timing was just right, and I'm excited for this new stage in all of their lives at the new farm.

We visited last weekend just after my sister moved in, and it's already a place full of love. My grandparents are just down the road and they are loving the extra time with all of the grandchildren and the impromptu visits. Just wanted to share a few photos of this beautiful place with you.

And of course we needed fireworks and sparklers to end the night.

Featured: Interview with Sophisticated in Style

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

I have had the pleasure to get to know Lauren a little bit through blogging, and she has been a great support for my blog and budding business. You can check out the interview she did with me here.

Here's just a few snippets for you to read if you don't have time to read the whole article.

How did you come up with the name ‘Vantage Events?’

It took me a long time! I wanted something that wasn’t wedding specific, and something that would make people think, “What does that stand for?”. I started looking up words that described the type of business I wanted to create, and came up with Vantage. Def: a position giving a strategic advantage, commanding perspective, or comprehensive view (source).

What would you say is the most important thing about your business that brings it success?

Dedication and passion. You cannot have a successful business without either of these things. Dedication is what gets the boring, finite details done, but passion is what keeps me going. You can’t fake passion, and clients can see that.

Can you please provide any advice for young professionals wanting to become an entrepreneur and/or get into the event planning business?

I am new at this so I don’t know how much advice I can give, but I would tell any young professional to do what they love. Show a positive work ethic, be reliable, and always strive to reach your full potential. Entrepreneurs have to take risks, but try to be as knowledgeable and prepared for the industry you are entering before you start, so that you don’t get scared off. Going through disappointment or failure is inevitable, but it’s all in how you handle it. Use these experiences as a stepping stone to something greater, and assess how you can improve for the next opportunity. Lastly, the biggest thing I have learned is to create your own opportunities. Don’t waste your time waiting for someone to come to you and offer you your “big break”. It’s all about hard work and proving that you deserve to be part of that industry. Best of luck to all you budding entrepreneurs out there!

Scandinavian Thursday: Cottage

Thursday, July 4, 2013

One of the things I have always dreamed about when I get older and have kids and grandkids, is to have a cozy little cottage for us to escape to. I have fond memories of my family going on vacation to my grandparents cottage with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. It's a time to relax, rejuvenate, and spend time with loved ones without any distractions.
A Scandinavian cottage would be just perfect!

Canada Day Celebrations

Wednesday, July 3, 2013

One of the items on my 2013 bucket list was to experience Canada Day in the capitol city; Ottawa. So this weekend, my husband and I made the 5 hour drive to Ottawa and were lucky enough to stay with his cousin and her husband. It was a great weekend of catching up, and celebrating our Home and native land - Canada. I felt so proud to be a part of such a lively crowd of fellow Canadians! Hope you all had a great long weekend!
