Current Project: Living Room Before

Thursday, September 28, 2017

We are slowly settling into our new home, and I must admit that unpacking with a 6 month old is much harder than packing with a 4 month old. It's fun having a fresh start when you move into a new house, but it can definitely be overwhelming!

Things are still in transition over here, so I thought I'd start by sharing before pictures of the space. We started out with a dark and dated feeling living room, so I was excited to freshen it up with a fresh coat of paint! If you look closely you can see that they carried this awful yellow/ mustard colour all the way up to the ceiling. Despite how much I raved about this colour in my previous post, it's not a colour I wish to have on my walls.

The first order of business was to give the ceilings a fresh coat of white paint, which you can see has already made a huge difference in freshening up this room! I can't wait to show you the new wall colour!

We bought a house!

Wednesday, August 9, 2017

We are excited to be homeowners!

My husband and I had been looking to purchase our first home for over a year, after looking in various cities and putting our search on hold last summer after we found out we were going to have a baby. We are so happy to now be homeowners and start settling into our new home.
The market was crazy this spring and we had some disappointments, but we are so happy with the house that we now can call our own.

There is a lot to be done in terms of updating the house, but I look forward to transforming each room and making it our own. It's always fun to see before pictures, so I wanted to share the listing photos with you and take you on a little tour of the house.

Building a Capsule Wardrobe

Thursday, January 29, 2015

I've come across several bloggers talking about a capsule wardrobe over the past year, and it's caught my interest. Since moving in the summer, I have been in the habit of sorting through my clothes every few months to see what I don't need. The idea of wearing 30-37 pieces per season definitely sounds like something I could want to do.

I've been reading the book Organized Simplicity by Tsh Oxenreider, and it's been putting some things in perspective that I have been challenged by this year so far.

While trying to save, and serve, and keep the house clean, stuff seems to consume my time more than anything else. Think about how much time would be saved tidying the house if you had less stuff!

I've decided to start with my closet, and pair down what I need for each season. Getting rid of those unworn items, and giving them to someone that I know will benefit from them more than me, has been a gratifying feeling. I want to make this year about others, and less about myself. Living with less stuff will hopefully open the doors to new opportunities, more time, and a clear mind.

What are you doing this year to make a change?

New Home

Friday, July 4, 2014

I'm feeling very blessed as we settle into our new home. There are things I had on my wish list as we were looking for a new place to live, and I am thankful that we were able to check a lot of those items off our list!

We are slowly making it feel like home, and I can't wait to give you the tour! For now, here's a look at half of our living room that isn't covered in boxes. Have a great weekend!

We're Moving!

Thursday, May 1, 2014

It's been a crazy past few days! We had our 2 year wedding anniversary on Monday, and talked about when we wanted to start having kids, what we wanted to happen before that, etc.
One of our biggest concerns was having a baby while living in our current apartment for various reasons. We decided to look at a house that went up for rent in a nearby area, and thankfully it was in our budget (other houses that have gone up for rent in the past few months were almost double!). Tuesday evening we met with the rental agent and knew that it was perfect for us the minute we walked in! We scrambled to get our paperwork together and met with him the following night to sign the lease.
We just gave our notice to leave our current apartment and are now looking forward to moving into our first house on July 1! I can't believe it all happened so quickly, but we know that God's hand was in this situation and was guiding us the whole way through.

These are just a few photos I took while walking through, hopefully once we get the keys I can take some good before pictures.

1 BEDROOM | HALF BATH ON MAIN FLOOR

 2 BEDROOMS & 1 BATH UPSTAIRS

So that is our new little abode. We can't wait to get in there and start painting and making it our own. It is very fresh and clean already which is nice, so hopefully we can settle in and feel at home quickly.
I'll update you with my decor ideas for each room in the next couple of weeks, so check back soon!

Dreamy kitchens, tufted couches, and throw pillows

Friday, November 11, 2011

I recently found these two sites and am totally in love with the aesthetic and design of both these designers. Since the hubs and I are seriously thinking about our first place together, I can't stop gathering inspiration and dreaming about our first home. It made me think back to this post I read a while back about throw pillows, something I would never have thought to be an issue. Apparently men just don't understand.

"A day into our new life at home after the honeymoon we decided to go shopping and use some of the gift cards we received. After getting essentials like cutting boards and laundry baskets I steered toward the throw pillow section:
Me: Howie I’m just going to pick up some more throw pillows for the couch.
Howie: The couch already has cushions.
Me: Built in couch cushions are not throw pillows. I’m just going to get a few.
Howie: $100 on pillows? I could buy 6 pairs of pants for that!
Me: I really hope you’re joking. Pants that cheap should not be worn.
Howie: There are so many other things we should spend $100 on.
Me: Howie we need these pillows. Trust me.
(Howie rolling eyes, shaking head)
Me: Oh what-EVER I’ll just get this ONE pillow then. But you can’t use it.
Howie: I didn’t say you couldn’t get them.
The next day I arrived home with three new pillows. Howie tried to tell me the blue one didn’t match anything. I told him it matches our second bedroom. He didn’t understand why a living room pillow had to match a colour in a secondary bedroom. Men."
To hear more of these hilarious stories, check out her blog at Life as Modern Wife.

Do you notice all the throw pillows? I think I'm in trouble.
