Finding the perfect balance of form and function 

We've had our current living room furniture since we got married 5 years ago, and now that we've added a baby to the mix, the form and function of our furniture has to change. I have been trying to find a media storage unit, but haven't quite found something with the perfect balance between industrial and modern, yet still warm. Another must have is closed storage, since our baby girl loves pulling herself up and tearing everything off of shelves lately. *sigh
I'm dying to find something unique that stands out as more of a furniture piece rather than just media storage. Cue the inspiration.

We are slowly settling into our new home, and I must admit that unpacking with a 6 month old is much harder than packing with a 4 month old. It's fun having a fresh start when you move into a new house, but it can definitely be overwhelming!

Things are still in transition over here, so I thought I'd start by sharing before pictures of the space. We started out with a dark and dated feeling living room, so I was excited to freshen it up with a fresh coat of paint! If you look closely you can see that they carried this awful yellow/ mustard colour all the way up to the ceiling. Despite how much I raved about this colour in my previous post, it's not a colour I wish to have on my walls.

We are excited to be homeowners!

My husband and I had been looking to purchase our first home for over a year, after looking in various cities and putting our search on hold last summer after we found out we were going to have a baby. We are so happy to now be homeowners and start settling into our new home.
The market was crazy this spring and we had some disappointments, but we are so happy with the house that we now can call our own.

We have been working hard on getting the baby's room ready, and I'm so excited to start putting in all the little touches. The colour came out so beautiful and I can't wait to show you! But what's a project without before pictures?

Here is what the room looked like when we moved in a couple of years ago (before it became our junk collection room/ my dressing room), and in the process of getting the painting started.

When I started to pin and save photos for our "future nursery" a few years ago, it was always hypothetical and I had so many varying styles. I always thought a bright kid's room would be fun, but then again it didn't seem calming enough for a newborn. Then when we got pregnant, I started pinning gender neutral rooms that I knew could transition easily through the first few years. And then, we found out we were having a girl, I was instantly drawn to pink! What a surprise eh?
We have purchased some of the furniture and are hoping to paint this week and start getting the room ready for our sweet baby girl.  

I'm feeling very blessed as we settle into our new home. There are things I had on my wish list as we were looking for a new place to live, and I am thankful that we were able to check a lot of those items off our list!

We have been living in our apartment for about a year and half now, and I am feeling a little antsy about redecorating for fall and winter. I want our home to feel warm and welcoming, but also young and modern.
We have already painted most of the rooms but now it's all about editing to make it all feel like a cohesive space. I'm hoping to pick up a few new things at our family garage sale this weekend, and spend my Sunday at home redecorating! Hopefully I will be able to show you the results on Monday.
