Travel: [What to wear] England in the Winter

A visit to England during the winter may get you away from the snow, but that doesn't mean you won't need to keep warm. The weather can be tricky, so I wanted to share some tips to help you pack for a visit to England.

What to pack for 1 week in England

You'll want a light jacket, and a heavier one for those colder days.
Sweaters are the key to keeping warm on those cold damp days that you are walking around visiting the sights. I would suggest to bring sweaters that you can layer so that you get the most use out of them.
Depending on your itinerary, you'll want at least one nice blouse that you can wear out, and some more casual tees for daytime.
Cardigans are great for layering and if you get a day without rain you can venture out without a coat!
Footwear can be tricky because you don't want to bring anything too bulky, but keep in mind you will need something comfortable, warm, and practical for the weather.
Pack neutral bottoms such as leggings and jeans to be able to work with any outfit. And throw in something different like a dress or skirt if you want to dress things up a little.

Other:
Tights, Mittens (hat optional), and Umbrella.
A couple of scarves to keep warm and change up your look.

Travel: Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario

Over the past couple of years we have enjoyed spending time in Niagara-on-the-Lake, so I thought I'd share a few things to do if you are planning a trip in the future. I would suggest visiting in the Spring and Fall, as they are the most scenic and also gives you lots of options for things to do.

Visit a Winery
Of course visiting a winery is a must! There are so many to choose from, and they all vary in style and taste. The best way to see them is on a bus or bike tour to enjoy the scenery and meet new friends along the way.

This particular day we visited Pillitteri Estates Winery.

Downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake
NOTL is a quaint little town with shops, historical buildings, and lots of delicious restaurants.

Niagara Parkway path
There are lots of paths to choose from through town, but my favourite is running or biking down the Niagara Parkway path that runs the whole length of the Niagara River.

Smuggler's Cove Boat Club
Smuggler's Cove is a tiny little boat club that you can find "off the beaten path" - literally. There's a small dirt road that leads down, or you can take the stairs to this peaceful spot on the Niagara river.

[Where to Stay] Palm Cove, Australia

Pullman Palm Cove Sea Temple Resort & Spa

Finding accommodations in a city that you have never visited (and is on the other side of the world) can be tough. So when we were planning our trip to Palm Cove, I spent a lot of time searching various travel sites and corresponding with Australian travel agencies to find what would work best for our needs. Since we were traveling with 6 adults, we decided it was best to rent a house or condo that we could share. We were so pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Pullman Palm Cove Sea Temple Resort, as it definitely makes a great first impression.

The way the condo was set up, worked really well for us and I would highly recommend it for anyone traveling with family or a group. There was a shared entrance, and to the left was an entirely separate Master suite, equipped with it's own bathroom, bedroom and both suites connected back on the balcony. To the right was the main living area, the 2nd and 3rd bedroom, bathroom, as well as laundry facilities.

The view from the balcony overlooked the main pool and out to the ocean.

We spent 4 week nights here, and we got a great price of $310 AUD / night, which was well worth it!

So, if you are looking to visit Cairns or surrounding area, I would recommend a visit (or stay) in Palm Cove. It was so peaceful and relaxing! And the poolside restaurant has a pulled pork sandwich that's to die for! Looking back on these memories has me itching to go back!!

I've been dreaming about our next vacation, and it has me reflecting on our trip to Australia in 2013. We hopped on one plane to next, discovering different cities and beautiful beaches.

One of my favourites was Palm Cove, Queensland - it was our own little private oasis. It is a small town between Cairns and Port Douglas, and I would highly suggest it to anyone planning a visit to the Great Barrier Reef!
