Let's talk

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Today is Bell Let's Talk day in Canada.
It's a day to spread awareness of mental illness in our country, and get rid of the stigma that is attached. I think it's so important to share the good AND the bad that happens in our lives, because everyone goes through a time in their life where they need to know they are not alone.

I recently came across this post that really spoke to me, and I wanted to share some quotes with you.

A new year is upon us, a new start, a renewal of all that we strive to be.
Somehow, through determination and unyielding belief, I accomplished more in this past year than I have in any year. And yet, this past year was trying, burdensome, and challenging beyond belief.
There were times this past year when the going got so tough that I found it hard to see the light.  And just as the mounting uncertainty and fear would start to overwhelm me, an unexpected window would open and light would beam in from a most surprising source, and all would make sense once again.  But that uncertainty and fear was real, very real, and immensely challenging.  This past year was also filled with a tremendous amount of good- good opportunities, good times, and good people.  Sometimes, the only way I managed to keep on the sunny side of the street was by keeping grateful, for the good and the bad, and by accepting the help and support of the people around me.
I step into this new year with a clearer focus of what I want my life to look like, and a deeper understanding of what I need my life to feel like.  I want to focus on two things: purposefully directing my attention and focus onto what I want to manifest and grow, and putting more time, effort, and love into my relationships.  I aim to ultimately get to a place where I can naturally focus all of my attention and thoughts on the good around me, stop worrying, and stop wasting any effort on that which I cannot control.  I know this is easier said than done, and I want to work on it one day at a time. - Belle

Life can be challenging for everyone, and we need the strength and support from those around us to get through these times. Today is about opening up those windows for people who cannot see the light, and letting them know that they are not alone in their pain. Be a source of strength for someone who may not now where to turn.

Back at it

Monday, January 20, 2014

I decided it was time to get back to the gym. I had been putting it off, and enjoyed many lazy nights on the couch with my hubby eating chips and cookies.
There are several reasons why I gave up on the gym, but I am dedicated to getting back at it! I really want to make it a year of overall change, so what better place to start than with a new fitness plan?!
I am hoping to work hard at getting to the gym 3x per week and doing my own at home work outs on my days off.

I am not doing this for anyone else but myself. I have been really focussing on bettering my life and getting a handle on my depression, and now it's time to shift that focus on my physical health. I'm excited about getting back into shape and pushing myself to be the best person I can be. You can join me! It's time to get motivated friends.

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

I finally made myself a hair appointment, but now I need your help!
I have so many different styles that I want to try, but don't know how daring I will be once I sit in the chair.

HELP ME PICK A CUT!
Bob with side swept bangs?

Shoulder length with side swept bangs?
Wavy shoulder length hair Hair
Should I go for the fringe?

COLOUR INSPIRATION
I don't know if I am really one for the ombre look, but I love how soft it looks on Elizabeth Olsen. OR, I was thinking of a caramel blonde. What do you think?

Honestly, I want to see you be brave

Sunday, January 5, 2014

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
- Brave, by Sara Bareilles -

Sometimes, we need to give ourselves permission to be brave, as if saying it out loud will give us that courage to say what we want to say.
There are days when it is hard to be brave, and the only thing you want to do is stay curled up in bed and not have to face the world.
There are moments when you feel like you would rather hide in a corner than stand amongst the crowd.
But, there are times in our lives, when we need to fight for what we want, and just be brave. Do not let your fears hold you back, or the feelings of incompetence that we allow ourselves to get inside our heads. Everyone has a purpose and a dream that needs to be lived out, I wanna see you be brave!
